George Junior sets Veterans Celebration



PINE TOWNSHIP — George Junior Republic, Pine Township, will host its second annual Veterans Celebration from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Resource Center.

A speaker, multimedia presentation, prayer service and lunch will be included. The event is open to all veterans.

Medical ethics project slated at Thiel College



GREENVILLE — Two identical sessions of Community Medical Ethics Project are planned for 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 28 in Howard Miller Student Center’s Sawhill-Georgian Room on the campus of Thiel College in Greenville.

Drs. Arthur White and Matt Morgan, both Thiel professors, will present “Who Gets the Good Stuff? A Pre-Election Review and Conversation about the Health Care System in the United States.”

Access to health care in America will be reviewed with attention paid to the availability of insurance, its costs and coverage and the impact of the uninsured on the system.

UPMC Horizon and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, both Greenville; St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township; and Thiel will sponsor the event.

Grove City College to give alumni awards



GROVE CITY — The 2008 Grove City College Jack Kennedy Memorial Alumni Achievement Awards will be presented to four graduates at 7 p.m. Oct. 17 in Mary Anderson Pew Hall, on campus.

Anne McClelland, a 1981 alumna, is senior director of industry channels and business development for Microsoft’s Enterprise and Partner Group in Durham, N.C., where she is responsible for driving Microsoft’s industry business, cultivating business and technology.

Jerome Nairne, a 1976 alumnus, is president of Chesterfield Cos., which under his leadership has grown into a nationwide service organization with more than 100 employees.

Douglas Muetzel, a 1980 alumnus, is chief executive officer of Wesley Spectrum Services, where he served on the board of trustees prior to his transition from a corporate sales and marketing career to the nonprofit community.

William Smith Jr., a 1969 alumnus, is president, chief executive officer and co-founder of Smith Micro Software Inc., a global software company that develops and markets wireless multimedia and communications solutions for the wireless telecommunications industry.

Mercer students to pay tribute on Veterans Day



MERCER — Mercer Elementary School fifth- and sixth-graders and Mercer High’s Wind Ensemble will present a Veterans Day program at 1 p.m. Nov. 7 in Mercer High School’s auditorium.

Robert C. Eiler, Department of Pennsylvania Veterans of Foreign Wars past state commander, will speak. Eiler is a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Robert W. Young Post 8805 and served his post three terms as commander and was awarded all-state commander twice. He is a registered post service officer.

A decorated veteran, Eiler enlisted in 1961 in the Army and served in Laos and Vietnam as an adviser.
