STONEBORO –– Emmanuel Christian Church, 4495 Greenville-Sandy Lake Road, Stoneboro, will have Pass It On Day from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. today. There will be free clothing for men, women, children and infants, all ages and sizes, as well as free household items, including furniture and furnishings. Free coffee and donuts will be served. Sharon Regional to BEGIN new program



HERMITAGE — A new breast cancer recovery program starts Tuesday in Sharon Regional Health System’s Breast Care Center in the Diagnostic and Imaging Center, 2435 Garden Way in Hermitage.

The BEGIN program benefits breast cancer patients who are undergoing treatment or were recently diagnosed. Participants receive information, have a chance to interact with staff and other participants and attend yoga sessions from 10:30 a.m. to noon or 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. BEGIN, which complements patients’ treatment plans, is offered at no charge.

Volant Pumpkin Fest is this weekend



VOLANT -- Volant Village’s annual autumn Pumpkin Festival events today and Sunday include: Hayrides, apple butter making, a bee keeper and harvest market, crafts, pumpkin bowling, a chili cookoff (11 to 4 p.m. today), a polka band (1 to 4 p.m. today), a ghost tour (7:30 p.m. today; call 724-533-2234 for reservations; $5).

Sunday special events include a fall tea (call 533-2450 for reservations), a baking contest (noon to 2 p.m. at the Kitchen Shoppe) and samples and demos at noon and 1 at the Kitchen Shoppe. Stores will be open starting at 10 a.m.

Pymatuning State Park offers kayaking at swamp



JAMESTOWN — A kayak program is set for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 11 on the Hartstown Swamp of Pymatuning State Park, Jamestown.

Birding, canal and glacial history and plant identification will be part of “Paddle the Hartstown Swamp.” Participants must bring their own kayak, floatation device, water, snack, lunch and binoculars. Some kayaks will be available to borrow. Registration needed by Wednesday by calling 724-932-3142.

Old-Fashioned Christmas set in Shaker Woods



COLUMBIANA, Ohio — The 14th annual Old-Fashioned Christmas in the Woods is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 11 and 12 and 18 and 19 in Shaker Woods, Columbiana.

The festival will host 200 quality craftspeople and artisans. Daily cost is $6.50 for adults and free to those 12 and younger.

Olympic medalist to speak at Thiel College



GREENVILLE — A winner of six medals in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing will speak during the second Community Experience event of the fall semester at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 in William A. Passavant Center on the campus of Thiel College in Greenville. Natalie Coughlin will speak on her Olympic experiences and her advocacy for women in sports. The event is part of the college’s Community Building Initiative.

First United Methodist does mentoring program



SHARPSVILLE — Teens through those in their 60s and 70s are coming together monthly in First United Methodist Church, 148 E. Shenango St., for an intergenerational mentoring group.

The teens teach those involved in the Senior Employment Program how to program their cell phones, DVDs and VCRs and show them what text messaging and iPods are all about. The seniors in turn share their lives experiences.

The Oct. 12 meeting will be “German Night’ to honor Sharpsville’s foreign exchange student from Germany.
