Kathryn Ledney to mark 93rd with card shower



SOUTH PYMATUNING TOWNSHIP — Kathryn “Kay” Verholek Ledney, South Pymatuning Township, will be celebrating her 93 birthday Tuesday. Her family requests that friends send cards.

Mrs. Ledney grew up on Baldwin Avenue in Sharon and remembers putting on plays for her friends. She is a Sharon High School graduate and member of St. John'’s Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church in Sharon.

Mrs. Ledney enjoys puzzles, reading, her family, writing and watching competive dance programs.

Penn State-Shenango hosting K.I.D.S. program



SHARON — The Shenango Campus of Pennsylvania State University has teamed with the Mercer County Behavioral Health Commission to host a comprehensive life skills program for fifth- and sixth-graders, parents, schools and area communities.

The goal is to provide a fun, safe and healthy summer camp experience, assist in positive decision-making, support personal growth and strengthen peer relationships.

The Shenango Campus field trips run 10:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 29 through July 31 and Aug. 6. Eight different area schools will bring 30 to 45 students for a full day of workshops and activities.

Each day begins with a welcome to the students by Jammie Tomasone, Penn State-Shenango admissions counselor, followed by workshops in “Let’s Make a Movie,” “Can We Build It — Yes We Can ... Building Towers and Teamwork.”

After lunch in the Great Hall, students will have two more workshops activities, “Hands On with Healthy Hearts” and “The Search for Our Future Scavenger Hunt.”

Each day will end with a group photo at the Penn State Nittany Lion Shrine.

Shenango Valley YMCA announces events



HERMITAGE — These events are scheduled at Shenango Valley YMCA, 925 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage:

• Paul S. Ghirardi Memorial Classic Car Show — Noon to 4 p.m. July 13. Car registration, 9 a.m. to noon.

• Family jamboree — July 18. Camp out at the YMCA.

• Summer Day Camp Program — July 21 through Aug. 8, for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Register for one, two or three weeks.

• Bowl-A-Thon — July 26.

• Benchfest — Aug. 3. Unsanctioned, Touch and Go and Raw will be included.

• Fall soccer sign-up — 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 16.

• Shenango Valley YMCA golf benefit — Sept. 13 at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course, Hermitage. Afternoon golf scramble and dinner are set.

Pymatuning State Park sets ladies kayak, canoe event



JAMESTOWN — A “Ladies Morning Kayak/Canoe Paddle” is set for 9:30 a.m. to noon July 19 at Jamestown Marina Launch of Pymatuning State Park.

Participants must be 16 or older and should take drinking water, snacks and a life preserver. Those with kayaks or canoes may take them.

Call by July 16 to reserve a kayak: 724-932-3142. Canoes may be rented from Jamestown Livery.
