Fundraisers

• A rummage and bake sale is set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 6 at Vincent United Methodist Church, 20 Walnut St., Jackson Center. A light lunch can also be purchased.

• All-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be from 7 a.m. to noon June 7 at Orangeville United Methodist Church, 7850 Stateline Road. Breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, sausage and beverage.

• Brookfield United Methodist Church Altar Guild is having its annual rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 6 and 8 a.m. to noon June 7 in the church fellowship hall, 6951 Grove Street at Ohio Route 7, Brookfield. Lunch will be available.

• Joyful Diversions of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 3325 Morefield Road, Hermitage, will be having a cake and pie auction at 11 a.m. June 8. 

Come and enjoy the fun and buy some wonderful baked goods to freeze for Father’s Day or just to indulge in any time.

• First Baptist Church, 301 W. State St., Sharon, holds a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 6 and 8 a.m. to noon June 7.

Super sale, all the clothing you can get into a brown grocery bag for $1, will be held June 7.

No items will be sold before the sale.

• Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church is having a Strawberry Festival from 3 to 6 p.m. June 7.

Generous-sized bowls of ice cream topped with homegrown strawberries will be sold for $3.50 for adults and $2 for ages 10 and younger. Toddlers eat for free.

The festival will be set up on the front yard of church member Gladys Cole’s home, 72 Mercer Ave., directly across the street from the church.

Parking will be available in the church parking lot, as well as off-street parking.

• Animal Appeal will hold a used book sale from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at 1950 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, near Meiss Automotive.

Choose from many categories including romance, Western, mystery and adventure. Also available: hardbacks, children’s books, videos and more.

Proceeds benefit homeless cats and dogs in our community.

Classes

• American Red Cross of Trumbull and Mercer counties will be holding two CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer classes. This is the last chance for those with summer jobs as lifeguards to recertify their cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills.

The Mercer County office, 517 W. Main St., Sharpsville, will hold a class from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday and June 5.

The Trumbull County office, 661 Mahoning Ave., Warren, will hold a class from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 7.

• Sharon Regional Health System offers these events at the Diagnostic & Imaging Center, Hermitage:

Hand Therapy Screening from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. Tuesday with certified hand therapist Maureen Riggle.

Skin Cancer Screening from 2:30 to 4 p.m. June 11 with Dr. Lynn Colaiacovo.

Grocery Shopping with Diabetes, 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Caregivers Support Group, 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Celiac Disease Support Group, 6:30 p.m. June 12.

Bus trip

• Penn Power retirees bus trip to Riverside Inn in Cambridge Springs on June 19 is sold out.

Reservations are being taken for the five-day trip to Ocean City, Md., Sept. 14-18, with lodging at the Flamingo Hotel, which features indoor and outdoor pools and is close to the boardwalk. Cost includes four breakfasts, three full-course dinners, trips to Harrington Raceway & Casino, Sea Shell City, shopping and more.

Reunions

• The annual Sarah M. Kelso reunion will begin at 1 p.m. June 22 at Coolspring Township building.

• The annual Lilly reunion will begin at noon July 5 at Lackawannock Township building. Dinner is at 12:30 p.m.

Beverage provided. Take your own table service and casserole for your family and a white elephant item for the Chinese auction.

There will be games and fun for all.

• The annual White School reunion will be June 21 at Oak Grove Youth Center, formerly Oak Grove Church, Airport and Oak Grove roads, east of Fairview. Dinner will be served at 1 p.m.

Coffee and cold drinks will be provided.

Everyone who ever attended White School is welcome.

Meetings

• Penn High School class of 1957 meets for dinner at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Carini Restaurant, Greenville.

• Farrell High School class of 1941 meets at 11:30 a.m. June 5 at Denny’s Restaurant, Hermitage.

• Sharon Steel Retirees will hold their monthly meeting at noon June 5 at Sharon American Legion, East State Street.

Father’s Day will be celebrated with a catered luncheon.

Cost is $5. Call Betsy, 724-962-3102, with your reservation if you were not at the last meeting.



Special events

• Sharon American Legion Post 299 will host a flag retirement ceremony at 2 p.m. June 8. If you have a tattered or worn flag to be properly retired, take it to the post at least a week in advance so the Scouts can parade them for the rite.

A luncheon will be held after the ceremony.
