Fundraisers

• St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 159 Todd Ave., Hermitage, will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Sloppy joes with chips, hot and cold beverages, and homemade baked goods will be also be available.

• Quota International of Hermitage BYOG, Style Show and Luncheon begins at 1 p.m. Oct. 4 at Avalon Golf and Country Club at Buhl Farm Park. Bring Your Own Games to play such as Euchre, Mahjong, Sequence, bridge and more. Fashions presented by The Winner. Cost is $30 a person to benefit local charities. Reservations: Carol, 724-962-4409.

• The 19th Annual Chili Cookoff to benefit Sharon Regional Health System’s Hospice is set for Sept. 19 at the Field at the Woods, 151 Baird Road, Edinburg. The field opens at 4 p.m. with plenty of parking; 5 p.m. will be all-you-can-eat at your own risk and at 7 p.m. the votes will be tallied and there will be an awards ceremony. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for ages 17 and younger. Admission includes all the chili and side items you can eat. Texas tea and water provided; take your own adult beverages. Take a tent, there will be plenty of room to stay all night. Motor home encouraged. Sponsorships available and include admission, business and/or name listed in program and VIP parking. • The United Methodist Women of the West Middlesex United Methodist Church are sponsoring their annual good used clothing sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 17; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 18; and 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 19, which will be bag day.

• Trash and treasure, rummage and bake sale is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church, 75 Mercer Ave., Wheatland. The event is sponsored by the church mission committee.

• A stuffed pork chop dinner will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 19 at Hartstown Presbyterian Church, U.S. Route 322. Dinner includes side dishes, beverage and homemade pie. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 6 to 12. For takeouts, call 814-382-4757.

• Mercer County Vietnam Era Veterans Association meets at 7 p.m. Sunday. Please note the change in the monthly meeting date. Next month’s meeting will fall on the normal third Sunday.

• Bill Philson, executive director of Mercer County Historical Society, will discuss the role of the Irish in Mercer County’s history at the Mercer County Genealogical Society meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 in the community room of Community Library of the Shenango Valley, 11 N. Sharpsville Ave., Sharon. The Irish worked on railroads and canals, established homes and churches, and made many contributions to the county. The public is invited to learn “When the Irish Became White.”

• Sharpsville High School class of 1947 meets for breakfast at 9 a.m. Sept. 23 at Denny’s restaurant, East State Street at North Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage. A luncheon reunion is set for 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 24 at Denny’s. Meals will be from the menu.

• Farrell High School class of 1946 meets at 1 p.m. Monday at High Street Grille, 103 E. High St., Sharpsville.

• Sharon High School class of 1942 gathers for lunch at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Laddie’s Sky Club, Brookfield.

• Hermitage Historical Society holds a membership meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Stewart House, 5465 E. State St.

Robert Yeatts, who is stepping down as president of the society, will speak on his tenure. Officers will be elected in October. Membership dues are $10 a person and $25 per family.
