Jobless rate of 11 percent is sixth-worst in the state

MERCER COUNTY — A growing unemployed base resulted in Mercer County’s jobless rate growing to a preliminary 11 percent in October, up from September’s revised 10.6 percent.

The county had the sixth-worst unemployment rate among the state’s 67 counties, tied with Huntingdon. Mercer County continues to have a higher unemployment rate than the state’s 8.8 percent rate and the national 9.6 percent rate. A year ago the local jobless rate stood at 12 percent.
