Dr. Andrea Grove gives presentation at meeting

NEW WILMINGTON — Dr. Andrea Grove, assistant political science professor at Westminster College, presented “A Different World: Teaching Strategies for North-South Courses” at the International Studies Association annual meeting in San Diego.

Dr. Grove also served on the discussion panel for “The Processes of Peace and Reconciliation in Divided Societies,” and was secretary for the Active Learning in International Affairs business meeting.



Grove City College profs taking sabbaticals

GROVE CITY — Two Grove City College faculty members have been awarded one-semester sabbaticals for the fall of 2006-07.

Dr. Paul Kemeny, an associate religion and humanities professor, will complete three chapters of his forthcoming book, “The First Moral Majority: The New England Watch and Ward Society and Moral Reform Politics in Late Nineteenth and Early Twentieth-Century America.”

Dr. Marvin Folkertsma, a political science professor, will begin two scholarly projects. A book will give an analytical overview of American political thought tentatively titled “Pragmatists, Dogmatists, Visionaries, and Skeptics: Perspectives in American Political Thought;” and a more detailed focus upon theorists falling into the latter two categories.



Slippery Rock University honors employees

SLIPPERY ROCK — Two local residents were among those honored for their years of employment at Slippery Rock University.

Eliott Baker of Mercer received a 25-year award for work in academic records and summer school.

Timothy Carney, Grove City, received a 20-year award. He works in facilities and planning.



DeCaria speaks at event for insurance, securities

HERMITAGE — Anthony J. DeCaria, vice president and financial insurance director for First National Investment Services Co. LLC, was invited to speak at Bank Insurance and Securities Association’s annual conference in Hollywood, Fla.

The registered representative of INVEST Financial Corp. was among a selected group of industry leading experts to speak on a panel titled “Using Life Insurance for Wealth Transfer Solutions.”



Greenwood’s Hubbard Chevrolet earns award

HUBBARD — Greenwood’s Hubbard Chevrolet has received the GM Service Challenge Award.

The award is an reserved for a select few outstanding professionals in their field and is a symbol of exceptional performance. The dealership was honored at a regional recognition banquet in Cleveland.



Dr. John Tamplin attends association’s conference

SHARON — Dr. John C. Tamplin, an English professor at the Shenango Campus of Penn State University in Sharon, attended Eastern Community Collegee Social Science Association’s annual conference March 27 through April 1 in Baltimore.

He chaired a panel discussion on “The Global Economy: Teaching Strategies for Educating the Workforce in the Twenty-first Century.” Tamplin aso is a member of the organization’s board of trustees.
