West Middlesex man was teacher, school director
Gaylord Morgan Clelland, 33 Oak Hill Drive, West Middlesex, passed away at 12:38 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2006, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 82.
Mr. Clelland was born March 29, 1924, in Star Junction, Pa., to George Gibson Clelland and Elizabeth Morgan Clelland.
He earned his undergraduate degree at Waynesburg College and took graduate courses at West Virginia University, Morgantown; Kent (Ohio) State University and Youngstown State University.
As an educator in West Middlesex Area School District, Mr. Clelland taught fifth and sixth grade students and was also a reading specialist. He formerly worked for King’s and Bruno’s Jewelry stores. Prior to his teaching career in West Middlesex, Mr. Clelland was a principal, seventh and eighth grade teacher and coach in Wayne, Ohio.
After his retirement, Mr. Clelland served as a school director.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II for three years in Europe, participating in the Normandy Invasion. He later served in the Korean conflict.
Mr. Clelland was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Kedron Lodge 389, West Middlesex; Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, both Waynesburg. He also belonged to Lebanon Presbyterian Church, Lackawannock Township.
His wife, the former Patsy Umholtz, whom he married June 18, 1951, survives at the residence.
Also surviving are: a daughter, Gay Lynn Hardy and her husband Donald, Waynesburg; a son, Keith H. Clelland and his wife Kerry, Erie; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Kritz and her husband Douglas, West Middlesex; four grandchildren, Donald James Hardy, Morgan Elizabeth Clelland, Benjamin Wayne Hardy and Kelsey Ann Clelland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Daryl Clelland, George Clelland Jr., Ralph and David Clelland; and a sister, Vnetta Lemley.

Service: Family funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday (6-28-06) in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Donald P. Wilson, retired pastor of Lebanon Presbyterian Church, Lackawannock Township, officiating.
Interment: Haywood Cemetery, West Middlesex, with military honors by the American Legion.
